"The idea for this painting goes back to my childhood and my years in primary school during the mid 1960's: Our school organised trips as part of its programmes to nurture students and one of our destinations was Jabal Qarah. To me, the mountain was awe-inspiring and overwhelming in its height, vastness, and sprawling presence. I often returned to the villages surrounding the mountain whenever I could. On one such visit, when I was considering creating a work about the mountain, I collected some soil from its slopes and surroundings. In this work, I mixed sand with the soil I had gathered from the mountain. Al-Ahsa is an inspiring city. Its richness lies in its diversity - it brings together agricultural, rural, desert, urban, industrial, and even coastal environments. My works and experiments have drawn from these elements, which embody the beauty of the land, the nature, and its people."
