Footnotes

Four sucriers ovales were included in the Frederik V of Denmark service in 1757; for an example see see Nina Birioukova and Natalia Kazakevitch, La porcelaine de Sèvres du XVIII siècle, The Hermitage Museum, 2005, p. 128, no. 128. The green ground on known pieces of the service is a stronger shade of green, so it is unlikely the present lot was part of this service. David Peters notes that other green-ground sucriers must have been sold within this period, including one mentioned in Lazare Duvaux's sale records of the second half of 1757 as a "sucrier vert nouveau" (David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services, vol. II, 2005, revised edition 2015, p. 303, no. 57-2).
