Footnotes

Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809) was chief of the sculpture atelier at Sèvres manufactory from 1773 until 1805. Although many of the wax models for plaques modelled at Sèvres are illustrated by T. Préaud and G. Scherf, La manufacture des Lumières, La Sculpture à Sèvres de Louis XV à la Révolution, 2015, pp. 315-321, this example is not amongst the illustrated examples, but can be grouped amongst the plaques designed for furniture and other decorative schemes by Boizot.
