The first mention of a broc Roussel appears in the kiln register for 22 November 1753. This type of object (ewer) was usually accompanied by a circular or oval basin (cf. Marcelle Brunet and Tamara Préaud, Sèvres. Des origines à nos jours, 1978, p. 159, cat. 105.).

Similar examples with stands are in the Wallace Collection (inv. C452-3) and Victoria & Albert Museum, London (inv. 753-1882).
