Footnotes
This dress was purchased by the vendor in 1972 from the Thea Porter Soho store, and she was served by Louise Fennell (mother of film director Emerald Fennell). The vendor wore the dress that year to be presented to the Queen Mother at Buckingham Palace.
Thea Porter designed her iconic 'Gipsy' dresses in the late 1960s, which typically feature a fitted, empire-line bodice, a full flowing skirt and dramatic balloon sleeves. The 'Gipsy' dress embodies Porter's signature bohemian chic style and has been worn by many fashion icons including Kate Moss who famously wore a version to her wedding rehearsal in 2011.
