The previously ebonised case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over a bell top with acorn finials to a moulded upper section, the front door fitted with pierced sound frets backed in old silk, the glazed front panel framed with brass banding, the sides with glazed observation windows and pierced sound frets, all raised on a moulded base on brass ogee feet. The 7.5-inch painted dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel hands, the corners with painted spandrel decoration and raised gilt neo-classical ornament to the break arch with automata depicting a wheelwright at work. The double fusee movement with five knopped pillars and converted anchor escapement striking the hours on a large bell and repeating the quarters on a pair of bells, the backplate finely engraved with architectural and floral details and signed in a central cartouche J Loomes Blackburn. Currently ticking and striking. 56cms (22 inches) high.
