The case surmounted by a cast carrying handle supported by a pair of lion masks, over an oval bevelled observation window framed with foliate engraving and flanked by four turned finials to the corners, the top supported by four Doric columns enclosing bevelled observation windows to both sides, the solid back door with engraved scrolls and acanthus leaves, the whole terminating in a plinth base and raised on turned feet. The 2.25 inch white enamel dial with Roman numerals, framed by a finely engraved gilt mask with floral detailing, fitted with gilt hands and signed at the six o'clock position Auguste à Paris. The twin train movement with English-style jewelled lever platform escapement and engraved balance cock, striking the hours on a blued steel gong mounted to the backplate. further signed on the movement Auguste à Paris. 15cms (6ins) high.
