A first half of the 18th century ebonised inverted bell top repeating table clock

John Thompson, Uxbridge
The case surmounted by a knopped brass carrying handle over an inverted bell top over pierced wooden sound frets backed in red silk. The sides with glazed observation windows above further pierced sound frets, the back with a glazed door and further frets, all terminating in a moulded base and on four block feet. The 6 inch brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals intercepted by fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture and calendar, offset winding square to the right-hand side. The chapter ring signed John Thompson, Uxbridge, framed by cast spandrels and a pendulum rise and fall subsidiary. The single gut fusee movement with verge escapement and four knopped pillars and pull quarter repeat acting on twin stacked vertical bells via counterweighted hammers, the hours struck on a larger bell. The plain backplate with pendulum holdfast. Ticking. 46cms (18ins) high.
