A late 17th century walnut basket top table timepiece

The waisted basket decorated with foliate scrolls and oval floral reserves below canopies, the lower section with running border (now surmounted by a later handle), framed by two finials and an intricate moulded cornice, glazed side panels, (the front door possibly re-veneered) to a moulded base and squat bun feet. The 4.75-inch square brass dial with boldly engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic five-minute divisions, with fancy cruciform half-hour markers. The matted centre with engraved decoration and calendar aperture to the upper section. Later blued steel hands, all framed by winged cherub head spandrels. The movement united by four knopped pillars and converted to anchor escapement, the single fusee now on steel line. The backplate with wide stylised wheatear border framing the series of symmetrical foliate scrolls centred by the signature Fab. Robins London within a shaped cartouche. Currently ticking. 43cms (17ins) high.
