A late 17th century ebony veneered basket top table clock case and dial

The case surmounted by a decorated handle over a repoussé top, the front centred by a scene of St George and the Dragon within a laurel wreath, surrounded by figures, the sides cast with busts of Roman generals, all within scrolling foliate decoration. The moulded top applied with further frets of acanthus leaves and floral motifs, the side panels with glazed observation windows framed by repoussé borders, the back door decorated with brass mounts and a central glazed window, all above a moulded base raised on four gilt claw feet. The 7-inch brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, cruciform half-hour markers to a matted and decorated centre with filled winding and mock pendulum apertures. The original movement now missing, and replaced with a Synchronome type movement numbered 11762. Not in working order. 43cms (17ins) high.
