A burr walnut veneered, quarter repeating and striking double basket top table clock with moonphase and age

George Tyler, London
The case surmounted by a double basket top with pierced lacework panels interspersed by gadrooning, over glazed sides on cast bun feet (the case re-veneered and partially rebuilt, the basket top period). The 7 inch break-arch dial with three subsidiaries for Strike/Silent, rise and fall regulation and an astronomical dial giving the moons age and phase shown in a recessed 'penny moon', the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half-hour markers and lozenge half-quarters, around a matted centre with decorated apertures for mock pendulum and date, with blued steel hands of typical form. The substantial plates united by six knopped pillars, twin gut fusees to a verge escapement with rise-and-fall regulation, striking the hours on a bell mounted above and quarter-repeating on a nest of four bells and hammers. The backplate profusely engraved with eagles, squirrels, masks, scrolls, and foliage, all within a wheat-ear border and signed to the centre in a cartouche George Tyler London. Ticking and striking, but in need of a service. 58cms (23ins) high.
