A late 18th century mahogany three pad striking table clock

William Nicoll, London
The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over three brass-mounted pads and a moulded top, the front with brass inlay to the sides and a brass sight ring around the dial, the sides with simple glazed observation windows, all terminating in a moulded base and raised on four brass ogee feet. The 6.75-inch silvered brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, the centre signed William Nicoll, London, with a simple calendar aperture and blued steel hands; the break arch with a separate strike/silent subsidiary dial. The double gut fusee movement with five knopped pillars and verge escapement with short bob pendulum, secured by an intricately engraved pendulum lock, striking the hours on a large bell mounted above the movement. The backplate finely engraved with neoclassical scenes centred by a classical urn. Currently ticking and striking. 46cms (18ins) high.
