A good third quarter of the 18th century striking two pad table clock
Thomas Hill, Fleet Street, London
The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over twin pads and a moulded top, the front with canted corners and simple brass escutcheon, the sides with glazed observation panels in moulded frames, and the back with a conforming glazed window, all raised on a moulded base and block feet. The 7-inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the matted centre with calendar aperture above VI, all framed by four cast spandrels, the breakarch with twin subsidiary dials, the left for strike/silent, the right for pendulum regulation, all set within floral engraved decoration, the arch signed Thomas Hill, Fleet Street, London. The substantial seven-pillar twin fusee movement with (later) steel lines, converted anchor escapement and rack and snail striking on a cast bell mounted above. Currently ticking and striking sold with a winding key. 46cms (18ins) high.
