A second half of the 18th century Swiss quarter-striking wall clock, the case with bespoke 20th century Vernis Martin style decoration.

The waisted case with fully restored painted decoration of multi-coloured sprays of flowers and leaves on a green ground, the rear panel signed Prodhous(?), applied all over with gilt brass openwork mounts of foliate scrolls. The 9 inch one-piece enamel dial with black Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel hands. The rectangular movement united by four turned pillars pinned through the backplate, the verge escapement with silk suspension and cycloidal cheeks, the quarters struck every fifteen minutes on the smaller of two bells, the hours struck on the larger bell by the same hammer which is automatically moved into position by a horizontal arm mounted on the backplate lifting the hammer arbor up slightly. Sold together with a pendulum, case key and winding key. Currently ticking and striking the hours and quarters. 1.06m (3ft 6ins) high.
