A very fine mid 18th century Luxembourg striking ormolu cartel clock
Jean Andre le Paute, Luxembourg
The case surmounted by a budding flower above Rococo decoration of acanthus leaves and flowing foliage, the front with a glazed observation window revealing the pendulum, all terminating in a decorated base. The 6-inch white enamel dial with blue Roman numerals and black Arabic five-minute markers, signed in the centre Le Paute au Luxembourg, with finely gilt brass hands. The movement accessed from behind with rectangular plates united by four knopped pillars, with verge escapement and striking the hours and half hours on a polished bell mounted above the back plate via an external count wheel, currently ticking and striking. 61cms (24ins) high.
