The case surmounted by a textured brass carrying handle over a break arch top, the sides with applied Gothic Revival sound frets backed in old red silk beside small bevelled observation windows, the back with large bevelled glass observation window revealing the intricate movement within, all to a moulded base and further raised on four turned feet. The 3.5-inch dial with enamel centre and Roman and Arabic numerals, the centre with a separate brass alarm setting dial with Arabic numerals and finely engraved gilt hands, all framed by a decorated gilt and engraved mask with foliate engraving, the top section with two subsidiaries — one for repeating and the other for strike/silent — centred by a painted enamel provincial scene. The movement with four pillars and verge escapement with a decorated balance bridge with jewelled pivots secured to the top of the back plate above a regulation dial, the back plate with a variety of strike work for the quarters and hours, the clock also wound from the back. 18cms (7ins) high.
