Gudin A Paris
The case formed as a truncated fluted pillar surmounted by an urn and attended by two seated winged putti engaged in the sciences, raised on a stepped plinth and framed by a ribbon-tied laurel dial surround. The 3¼-inch white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, signed Gudin A Paris.The movement with silk suspension and star-cut outside count wheel, striking on a bell. Currently ticking and striking and sold together with a winding key and pendulum. 42cms (16.5ins) high.

Footnotes

The present design corresponds closely to a drawing by Robert and Jean-Baptiste Osmond, recorded as No. 81 in their design books and described as "Pièce à colonne émail vert, vase avec deux génies, socle à carillon." A comparable clock, differing only in the use of gilt putti, was offered at Sotheby's Amsterdam on 29 September 2008 (Lot 90).
