An 18th century Dutch market ebonised quarter striking table clock

J. Watson, London
Surmounted by a brass carrying handle over an inverted bell top with brass ball finials to each corner above a moulded top, the front with pierced sound fret quadrants and further pierced frets to the sides backed in old silk, all on a moulded base. The 8-inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring and typical Dutch arcading to the minute track, intercepted by fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, alarm dial, calendar aperture, and silvered name plaque signed J. Watson, London, with pierced blued steel hands, all framed by cast brass spandrels. The break arch with applied painted decoration and moonphase. The double gut fusee movement with verge escapement and short bob pendulum, striking the hours on a bell mounted above via a rack and snail system, the alarm set from the front and wound from the back via a pulley to the side. The backplate finely engraved with foliate scrolls and floral decoration. Currently ticking and striking. 55cms (22ins) high.
