The case surmounted by a pair of ball finials over a marquetry-inlaid caddy top and further moulded section with a now plain section once for a pierced sound fret, the replaced columns intercepted by marquetry fronted with windows to each side. The concave throat moulding inlaid with floral marquetry above the marquetry-inlaid front door with circular glass lenticle, decorated with three panels of marquetry depicting still flowers, birds, and cherubs. The sides with simple banding to a moulded base and further raised on a marquetry-decorated plinth. The 12 inch brass dial with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring intercepted by fancy cruciform half-hour markers and signed to the base Chã Gretton, London, the matted centre with ringed winding squares, Arabic subsidiary seconds dial, and decorated calendar aperture with (later) blued steel hands, all framed by cast brass double cherub head spandrels. The twin-train movement with anchor escapement, striking the hours on an internal countwheel on a bell mounted above the backplate secured with five knopped pillars. Currently ticking and striking with a pendulum but no weights. 2.29m (7.5ft) high.
