A rare 20th century two-day brass-bound mahogany marine chronometer with Auxiliary Compensation and Kew A Rating

John Morton and Co Glasgow, No. 236/13118, circa 1928.
The case with replaced lid over recessed side handles, brass furniture, and applied nameplate, internally the lower section with a raised lip, locking gimbals and a 'standard rising ratchet' safety key. The signed and numbered 4 inch silvered Roman dial with minute track and subsidiaries for power reserve (marked in 8-hour increments with instruction to wind at 20 hours), the seconds with Observatory marks, signed in red AUXILIARY COMPENSATION and KEW "A", and good blued steel hands. The spotted full plate movement with maintaining power to a chain fusee with Earnshaw escapement, freesprung white metal helical spring terminating in an uncut Invar balance with auxiliary compensation (similar to Poole's type). Together with the tipsy winding key. Ticking. The case 18cms (7ins) wide.
