The case surmounted by a marquetry-decorated caddy top over a pierced sound fret backed in silk, above a moulded break-arch hood with further sound frets. The sides with glazed observation windows, flanked by simple Doric-topped columns, the front door inlaid with floral marquetry. The convex throat moulding above a long trunk door with three panels of floral marquetry, the panels depicting tulip still-life compositions, the centre of the trunk door with a sitting bird over a green glass lenticle, all framed by simple mouldings. Around the trunk door seaweed marquetry veneer above a moulded base and plinth, the plinth further decorated with marquetry, raised on an unusual further marquetry plinth base. The 12 inch brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals divided by cruciform half-hour markers, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial and ringed winding squares above a finely engraved calendar aperture, with blued steel hands and framed by cast brass cherub-head spandrels. Signed on an applied break-arch cartouche William Honeychurch, Rotherhithe, London. The movement with five turned and knopped pinned pillars, anchor escapement, striking the hours on a large bell mounted above the backplate via an external countwheel, with some finely decorated steel work. Currently ticking and striking together with a crank winding key a case key pendulum and a pair of large lead brass cased weights. 2.41m (7.9ft) high.
