Williamson, London
The case surmounted by a brass carrying handle over three brass-framed pads, to a moulded cornice and tall fish-scale sound frets to the sides backed in red felt, set -and rotating on - a rectangular plinth base with brass ogee feet. The 7-inch arched brass dial with twin enamel subsidiaries offering Strike/Silent and a choice of four tunes He Stole My Heart Away / General Toast / Song, and The Waterman, over the main Roman and Arabic dial with minute track and brass hands, signed in the centre Williamson London, framed by four cast brass spandrels.
The large triple chain fusee movement, wound from the back, with knife edge verge escapement, striking the hours on a large polished bell and playing on a nest of twelve bells and fourteen hammers. The backplate richly engraved with flowing scrolls (one terminating in a birds head) and foliage centred by an overflowing basket of fruit and flowers. Currently ticking and striking. 48cms (19ins) high.
