A good late 17th century walnut and marquetry veneered striking longcase clock

Later signed, Joseph Windmills London
The case with flat moulded hood top over marquetry-inlaid panels, flanked by later twist columns and glazed observation windows to the side, above a convex throat moulding inlaid with tulips and foliate decoration. The long trunk door with three panels of marquetry, centred by a large circular lenticle and escutcheon, framed by convex mouldings with stringing panels to the side. The base with further tulip marquetry inlay, on four turned bun feet.
The 11 inch square brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals divided by fancy cruciform half-hour markers, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial with Arabic numerals, twin ringed winding squares, and date aperture, with blued steel hands, framed by four cast brass cherub-head spandrels. Signed to the lower edge Joseph Windmills, London. The two-train movement united by six latched knopped pillars, with anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell mounted above via internal countwheel attached to the great wheel. Currently ticking and striking, sold with a pendulum and later weights. 2.05m (6.7ft) tall.
