An early 18th century burr yew longcase clock

Thomas Bradford, London
The case with flat moulded top over a pierced sound fret, the sides fitted with rectangular glazed windows and flanked by simple columns, above a concave throat moulding. The long trunk door with moulded surround and inlaid stringing enclosing an oval lenticle, above a moulded base raised on a plinth. The 12 inch brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals divided by fancy cruciform half-hour markers, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial, large ringed winding squares, and a decorated chamfered calendar aperture, fitted with pierced blued steel hands and framed by cast brass cherub-head spandrels within a double wheatear-engraved border. Signed to the lower edge Thomas Bradford, London. The two-train movement united by five finely turned knopped and latched pillars, with anchor escapement and internal countwheel, striking the hours on a bell mounted above the backplate. Sold with a pair of weights, pendulum and winding key. 2.18m (7.16ft) high.
