A good late 19th century French striking carriage clock with decorated silvered side panels

The case surmounted by a decorated carrying handle over a glazed rectangular observation window and repeat button to a moulded top, the sides decorated with finely painted panels depicting sailing ships on a silvered ground with oxidised polychrome detail, all framed within bevelled glass and supported by turned decorated columns, the back with a glazed observation window, the whole raised on a moulded base. The 2.75 inch dial with a matching nautical scene to the silvered ground, painted with red Roman numerals and centred by a pair of flying birds, with blued steel hands. The twin barrel movement with English style lever platform escapement, striking the hours on a blued steel gong mounted to the backplate, numbered 1073. 20cms (8 inches) high.
