Born in 1926 in Great Britain, Geoffrey Doonan first became interested in painting and then found a means of expression in clay. In the 1970s and 1980s, he exhibited his work from Holland to France where he settled in 1980. The disc sculptures are typical of his early works: large formats resembling stone or bronze, with iridescent surfaces and undulating bas-relief like menhirs emerging from the ages to deliver their message. Geoffrey Doonan then set out to create works that were more inspired by the human form, and he continued to paint.
