This captivating print depicts a serene group of soldiers resting atop a hill overlooking a vast alpine river valley. Part of the celebrated Large Landscapes series, the composition reflects Bruegel's fascination with the dramatic vistas he encountered during his travels through the Alps. Etched by Joannes and Lucas van Doetecum and published by Hieronymus Cock in Antwerp, these prints offered a wide audience access to Bruegel's innovative and naturalistic portrayal of the landscape, blending majestic detail with human presence.
