A SMALL LACQUER BOX
Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, early 20th century,
Of rounded square form with kabusebuta (overhanging lid), the body probably of textile or paper, covered in brown lacquer leaving the texture slightly visible, decorated in gold hiramaki-e and shell with a stand of three nadeshiko (fringed pink), Dianthus superba) blossoms.
4 1/2 x 4 1/4 x 1 3/4in (11.4 x 10.8 x 4.4cm)
