THREE LACQUER KŌGŌ (INCENSE CONTAINERS)
Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, late 19th/ early 20th century
Each circular, the first decorated in gold takamaki-e with a profusion of chrysanthemum blossoms, the recessed base and interior nashiji;
The second decorated in clear lacquer with red, green, and black highlights with blossom-shaped reserves with scenes from Genji monogatari (The Tale of Genji), and Genji crests, the interior decorated in roiro-nuri and sparse hirame, signed on the base Yūsetsu saku;
The third decorated in colorful mottled lacquer, the interior black lacquer
3 1/8in (7.9cm); 3 1/4in (8.3cm); 2 3/8in (6cm) diamter (3).
