Gordon Hope Grant was born in San Francisco and spent much of his childhood in Scotland, where he developed a love for the sea and sailing that would inspire his painting career. He was a prolific illustrator, creating work for Penrod, Saturday Evening Post, and Boys' Life. He designed the 1911 cover of the Boy Scout Handbook and worked under Harper's Weekly to cover the Boer War in South Africa. He was best known for his marine watercolors and etchings.
OVERALL CONDITION: Framed 23 5/8 x 29 3/4 x 7/8 in. (60.0 x 75.6 x 2.2 cm).
The sheet is affixed to the mat by tape on the right, left, and upper edges. There is some subtle rippling. The sheet has deckled edges.
