A Pair Of Bohemian 25-Bore Flintlock Ormolu-Mounted Holster Pistols
Circa 1730, Probably Carlsbad

With barrels each with sighting flat over most of its length to the fore-sight, breeches each chiselled with the figure of Diana amidst foliage against a stippled ground, foliate engraved tangs, locks each chiselled in bas-relief with a European and Turkish horseman in combat, and with a martial trophy beneath the pan, cocks and steels each engraved with further foliage (one top jaw expertly replaced), figured full stocks (old repairs beneath the locks) each carved around the barrel tang and on the fore-end, the latter each with horn cap, cast and chased mounts comprising side-plates with a hunting scene against a stippled ground, crowned escutcheons each with a seated female figure, spurred pommels each with a hound beside a Classical figure playing his lyre on both sides, rounded grotesque-mask butt-caps, trigger-guards each with foliate finial and with a female portrait bust on the bow, ramrod-pipes decorated with foliage, scroll triggers, horn-tipped ramrods, and retaining most of their original gilding (2)
