An English 'Mortuary' Hilted Backsword
Mid-17th Century

With curved tapering blade double-edged towards the point and cut with two broad fullers along its length on each side, the fullers at the forte struck with repeated crescent moon and circular marks, iron guard chiselled in low relief with profile faces and foliage, the knuckle-guard riveted to the chiselled globular pommel, button, and old writhen wooden grip bound with brass wire
