An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sabre
Early 19th Century

With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen' on the back at the forte, the latter etched and gilt on one side against a blued ground with foliage and post-1801 Royal Arms, and on the other with crowned 'GR' cypher and further foliage, regulation ormolu hilt comprising oval guard pierced with scrolls, knuckle-guard with pierced crowned 'GR' cypher at the base, lion-head pommel and back-piece in one, wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, bullion sword-knot, and retaining most of its original gilding, in original black leather scabbard (some wear and crazing) with linear engraved ormolu mounts retaining most of their original gilding, and with two rings for suspension
