A brass Butterfield-type dial, probably English, circa 1730,

the octagonal dial with three hour scales, hinged gnomon with bird indicator, compass bowl with eight engraved cardinal points, central scroll decoration, the reverse is plain apart from foliate decoration on the gnomon sprint mount, when closed 1.5 x 5.4 x 7.9cm (1/4 x 2 1/4 x 3 1/8in)
