An unusual oval silver string gnomon compass dial, French, circa 1730,

for latitudes 40, 45 and 50 degrees the angle being set on a vertical hinged strip with slider, compass bowl marked just with N initial, reverse plain and with simple foliate decorated compass bowl, in fitted oval wooden case with lid, the dial when closed 1 x 4 x 5cm (1/4 x 1 1/2 x 2in)
