A rare Jacques Canivet silver Butterfield-type dial with fixed gnomon, French, dated 1764,

signed Canivet a la Sphere a Paris, gnomon fixed for 14 degrees 45 minutes (Martinique), compass rise with eight cardinal points and finely engraved with four degree quadrants, the base with compass well finely engraved with scrolls and rose motif, 1.6 x 6.1 x 7.5cm (1/2 x 2 3/8 x 3in)

A Canivet brass graphometer also dated 1764 was sold in these rooms as lot 76 on the 27th October 2015.
The gnomon is fixed at 14 degrees 45 minutes which is for Martinique.
