signed Gab Stokes Dublin Fecit, suspension ring sliding over 0-85 degree scale and 23-0-23 degrees scale, central bridge with pin-hole sight sliding over calendar and degree scale with times of sun rise and set, 10cm (4in) diameter

Gabriel Stokes was born in 1682 and attended the King's Hospital School in Dublin. He became Deputy Surveyor General of Ireland. He is known to have sold bow quadrants, slide rules and sundials and he also invented the pantometron or surveyor's square.
