signed Canivet a la Sphere a Paris 1768, engraved on three sides with various linear and non-linear scales 11cm (4 1/4in) radius

Jacques Canivet was nephew and pupil of, and successor to Claude Langlois; "Ingénieur du Roi" and "Ingénieur en Instruments de Mathématique de Messieurs de l'Académie Royale des Sciences" (1756-74); Master of the "Corporation des fondeurs, 1743; he took over Jean-Baptiste Lordelle's shop sign and was succeeded by Lennel.
