Literature
P Bourne, Anne Redpath, Edinburgh, 2004, p. 75. A description of the painting is followed by Maurice Kidd's recollection of buying it from Anne, who quipped:
"Be careful the objects don't fall off when you get it home!"
Redpath's visit to Corsica in 1954 is generally thought to have been the catalyst for her use of more vibrant colour. However this powerful still life shows that she was already beginning to explore the use of pure colour to augment the decorative appeal of her compositions. Here, typical stylised motifs such as jug and fruit are thrown into relief against the remarkable red tilted ellipse of the tabletop, while the striped fabric to the left shows her interest in design.
