Provenance:
Purchased directly from Seditionaries in 1978.
They recall "This item was the first thing that I purchased in Seditionaries. My first visit was in December 1978 with three friends. We each bought a T shirt. As a 13 year old boy I couldn't really afford anything else. We were served by Jordan, who at the time wore red lenses in her eyes which was a very scary look. Needless to say I wore this one to death. The shirt came with the black Malcolm McClaren/ Vivienne Westwood label attached to the sleeve. Being a very young Punk this didn't seem too important and so in an act of self vandalism I cut the sleeves and collar off. I think I was trying to make the shirt look more like one of the pillow case type t-shirts that were also popular in the shop."
This features the design commissioned by Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren from Jamie Reid for use in music press advertising, posters and tour promotion to coincide with the release of the Sex Pistols' debut single Anarchy In The UK/I Wanna Be Me in the autumn of 1976. This artwork subsequently appeared on T-shirts and muslin tops sold in 1977 and 1978 in Seditionaries, the fashion outlet operated by McLaren and his partner Vivienne Westwood at 430 King's Road in west London's World's End.
