Footnotes

"You have been put through the thorns of scorn and misunderstanding,
and always stood firm and proud. Your work as a creator of music, actor and performer has shown like a beacon to the world."
- Yoko Ono, February 23, 2014

The diaries in this lot are at times thoughtful, at times practical, with detailed descriptions or a quick note on the day's events. The Courage Award was given to Marianne Faithfull by Yoko Ono. Above is an extract from the award. Marianne had known Yoko Ono since the 60's when she was married to John Dunbar, co-owner of the Indica gallery where Ono first met John Lennon. They struck up more of a friendship later in her career and Marianne was invited by Yoko to perform at the Meltdown festival on the Southbank, which she curated in 2013.

Marianne toured throughout 2015 and 16 in support of her album 'Give My Love To London'. The lyric folder containing lyrics to all the songs rehearsed for the tour (including some such as Bob Dylan's 'Corrina Corrina' which were never performed) was positioned on a lectern close to the microphone stand as an aide-mémoire if required. The folder with its pink page guides can be clearly seen in the photo taken during Marianne's concert at the Roundhouse on 2nd February 2016.
