Footnotes

During the 1990s, Anita Pallenberg returned to her artistic roots, studying fashion at Central Saint Martins and attending classes in botanical and life drawing. Her creative energy found renewed expression in a series of sketches and watercolours, several of which she gifted to her close friend Marianne Faithfull, like the present lot. Though very different in temperament, the two women shared an unbreakable bond forged in the intensity of the 1960s. Having lived through that extraordinary era alongside Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, their friendship endured for more than five decades.

The intimacy of their friendship can be seen in a letter from Marianne to Anita, which accompanies the artwork, "I long for all this to be over and have you in Paris with me. But of course, I don't know what your plans are I love you so much darling dearest one."

This artwork can be seen in the Nowness video, where Marianne is filmed giving a tour of her Paris apartment, at 0:33.
