N.B.
The gallery, colourmen, framers, and restorers Doig, Wilson & Wheatley operated in Edinburgh from 1895-1957, being the successor of Doig, McKechnie & Davids (1857-1884) and Doig & McKechnie (1885-1895). The firm received an appointment as picture restorers, printsellers, and publishers to Queen Victoria in 1889, which was renewed upon the formation of Doig, Wilson & Wheatley in 1895. The firm also cleaned and restored myriad pictures for the National Gallery of Scotland and the National Portrait Gallery beginning in the 1880s, including works by Thomas Gainsborough and Jacob van Ruisdael.
