N.B.
John Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845), was styled Viscount Althorp from 1783 until 1834. He was Chancellor of the Exchequer under Lord Grey and Lord Melbourne from 1830 to 1834 and was the Founder-President of the Royal Agricultural Society of England (founded 1838). He was also a well-known and successful cattle breeder. The prime version of this portrait is in the collection of Althorp House in West Northamptonshire, England.
