Shirred Table Rug and Hooked Rug with Songbird Border
New England, late 19th/early 20th century
One appliqué penny mat with central poppy and animal motifs, shirred scalloped border, original burlap canvas stitched onto later stretched cotton foundation, 23 x 33 in.
One burlap rug densely hooked with woven textiles and plied yarns, evenly faded dyes in variegated shades of indigo, pink, and yellow, sharp black and white outlines, professionally mounted on a burlap and ticking stripe foundation with adhesive Velcro strips at edges for mounting on the included stretcher frame, 25 3/4 x 39 1/2 in.
