Achsah Wade (1774-1851) of Bristol County, Massachusetts, married Benjamin Clifford (1772-1856) of Providence, Rhode Island, in 1795. Their son John Henry Clifford (1809-76) served as Massachusetts Attorney General from 1849-1852, and again from 1854-1858, a tenure interrupted only by his term as Governor in 1853. He was later president of the Boston and Providence Railroad, serving from 1867 until his death in 1876.
