Federal Inlaid Mahogany and Veneered Pine Card Table

The tenoned-edged single-board mahogany leaves with an elliptic front and ogee ends, the edges finished with inlaid strip of crossbanding between fletched and plain string borders; the fixed leaf attached with pocket screws to conforming apron of horizontally-laminated pine veneered with vertically-grained panels, the elliptic front centering a raised plaque with birds-eye maple oval surrounded by mitered crossbanding, and the flanking bottom edges inlaid with composite border as on leaves; the border continuing over the pilasters of four double-tapered legs, each with one face outlined in check-patterned stringing over full cuffs above the feet, the front legs reinforced inside the apron with vertical cylindrical blocks; refinished surface, closed, 91cm wide, 43cm deep, 73cm high (36in wide, 17 3/4in deep, 29 3/4in high).
