Woodcut print on laid paper depicting the Americas, bearing the heraldic insignia of Castile and Leon at lower left flanked by the Pillars of Hercules and entwined with a banner inscribed "PLUS ULTRA" ("Further Beyond"), an expression of Spanish support for maritime exploration, the sheet likely extracted from the fifth volume of De Peruviae by Levinus Apollonius, first published in 1566; matted and mounted in later glazed frame, retaining the label of New York City framer Arthur Brown on reverse.
