Footnotes
Provenance
In the Mack family of Londonderry, New Hampshire, since the 19th century.
Provenance Note
An exhibition card retained in pocket reads: "Embroidered Pocket-Book: Came over from Ireland in the Irish Emigration in 1719. Belonged to John McMurphy Esq. of Londonderry, N.H. who died in 1755. Just the site for depreciated Continental currency - or to encounter a Greenback craze," with the post-script "At Chicago 1893" signed by Robert Clark Mack (1818-94) of Londonderry. Mack similarly annotated a label on the Pinkerton pocketbook. These items were loaned by the Mack family for display at the New Hampshire State Building during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.
