Grain-painted Pine Step-back Cupboard
Lebanon, New York, early 20th century
Solid top with rounded edges slightly overhangs mitered ogee molding applied to front and returns of the upper cabinet, the facade with projecting side edges and rabbeted top corners enclosing a single door with joined frame surrounding a poplar panel centering a false muntin, opening on hinges over an interior with four fixed shelves above countertop extending from back wall to overhang the bottom cabinet containing two fixed shelves behind two solid panel doors, the front stiles projecting at sides as above and rabbeted over a fascia molding across raised bottom, enclosed on back with horizontal pine boards, those on bottom inscribed "#2 O.T. Schermerhor[n] / Cairo NY" in black paint (for Oliver T. Schermerhorn (1847-1907)), and the partial address "27 Murray & / 31 Warren Sts / New York" in stencil-painted letters, 78cm wide, 53cm deep, 231cm high (31in wide, 21in deep, 91 1/2in high).
